1. What is the difference between CHIPINAW and CHIPINAW @ SILVER
LAKE?
At Chipinaw we pride ourselves in being able to cater to campers of
all ages with different needs and expectations for the summer. Many
of our campers are lucky enough to be able to spend the whole summer
with us and are accommodated on our CHIPINAW campus. For those campers
that are looking for a shorter session, we are fortunate enough to have
CHIPINAW @ SILVER LAKE, an adjoining campus. Here, our campers are able
to enjoy the exact same program as the full summer campers but in half
the time. SILVER LAKE offers campers two half summer sessions which
encompass all the fun and excitement of a full summer experience including
a color war, trip and visiting day in each session.
2.How many people are in each bunk?
Each cabin houses six to nine campers with two counselors. The cabins
are equipped with modern conveniences such as full bath facilities including
hot and cold running water; ample electrical outlets and storage space
for clothing including closets and cubbies for folded items. Our housekeeping
staff clean the bathrooms daily while the campers and counselors keep
the main area of the cabin in order.
3. What activities will campers participate in?
Each division (age group) will have a schedule, which includes team
sports, swim instruction and recreation. Every camper will also get
an opportunity to experience many of the exciting elective activities,
including team and individual sports, a variety of waterfront activities,
horseback riding, visual and performing arts, circus, ropes course,
mountain biking and computers to name a few. As children grow older
they are offered more elective periods in their schedule.
4.
How many people are in each activity?
Groups are sized for optimum attention to each camper. Team sports will
have enough for a game and instruction. Art classes normally have four
or five campers with one to two instructors. Tennis and swim instruction
is offered in small groups and one on one.
5. How does the laundry work?
Each child's laundry is sent to an outside contractor. It is returned
folded and shrink wrapped in an individual laundry bag so that it can
be placed easily into the camper's cubby. Please make sure all clothing
is labeled with the camper's name inside.
6. Do you have a doctor in camp?
We have a doctor and two registered nurses on the grounds at all times.
Our infirmaries are staffed twenty four hours per day.
7. What is your largest age group?
Our children come from all age groups. Give us a call. We'll be happy
to provide names and numbers for you to use as a reference.
8. Are campers put into bunks by age or grade?
Campers are usually grouped in cabins by grade. Sometimes parents will
request a placement by age. If your child wants to bunk with friends,
in most cases we are able to meet your request.
9 . Are there a lot of choices at mealtimes?
Yes. Besides the hot meal there is a full salad bar, bread bar, baked
potato bar and pasta bar. Our baker creates the best breads and desserts
in the Catskills! We will also assist those campers who need a special
meal.
10.
Any out of camp trips?
Chipinaw goes on some cool trips, which are organized by division. Some
of our trips include Virginia, Canada Hershey Park, PA and several different
water and amusement parks. Our Senior overnight trips do incur an extra
expense. Children also leave camp to compete in intercamp games and
tournaments as well as attend movies or go bowling. We even go on canoe
trips down the Delaware River and campouts at our own private campsite.
11. Are there any other expenses? Do campers need extra money?
Each child is encouraged to deposit thirty to forty dollars in the camp
safe to be used as extra spending money. We require a hundred dollar
personal expense deposit (PED) for each camper. The fund is primarily
used for incidental expenses and emergencies, at the end of the summer
thirty five dollars is deducted for the waiter tips, the remaining balance
is fully refundable. We also ask that you have all luggage shipped to
camp with our camp trucker as we unpack and make each camper’s
bed before they arrive. Canteen items are included in tuition and are
not an extra expense.
12. Where do campers come from?
Campers at Chipinaw come from all over the United States. We have large
groups of children from the New York metropolitan area, New Jersey,
Philadelphia, Baltimore-Washington, Florida and California.
